[edit] Buried Soil

A soil profile that developed in a former landsurface but was subsequently buried beneath alluvium, loess, colluvium or other sediments. Burial effectively stops further soil development (though other diagenetic processes continue to occur) and preserves the profile as a record of past soil conditions.
