[edit] Colluvium

A general term applied to any loose, mixed, and incoherent mass of soil material and/or rock fragments deposited by rainwash, sheetwash, or slow continuous downslope creep, that have collected at the base of slopes or hillsides. Colluvium can be several metres deep, and is usually poorly sorted with either weak, or no stratification. It may accumulate naturally or through direct (tillage erosion) or indirect (opening of soil surface to sheetwash) human activity.
