[edit] Hanging Valley

This is a tributary valley the floor of which is at a higher elevation than the floor of the main valley it enters. Hanging valleys are formed by glacial erosion, as the main valley is preferentially deepened relative to the tributary with its smaller and possibly less free flowing glacier.
