[edit] Soil Profile
Soil profiles develop not as a result of sedimentary processes, but rather because of the actions of soil forming processes acting to modify the local geology or sediments close to the surface.
A soil profile consists of a series of diagnostic soil horizons. The nature and order of the horizons in a profile depends on the type of soil forming processes operations (e.g. organic matter additions, earthworm activity, leachhing, podzolisation etc.), and define the soil type.
