[edit] Adding Images and Other Media Files

To include an image or any other file type in SASSA Wiki you must first upload the file to the SASSA server. You then create links to the uploaded file in the page where you want them to appear. Permitted file types are: jpg, gif, png, pdf, doc, rtf, xls. Only files of this type may be uploaded. Please keep file sizes to a minimum and only upload files that you intend to use.

Please ensure that you are not breaching copyright for any files that you upload, always seek permission fom the original author.

[edit] Uploading images

Before uploading an image please ensure that the file list doesn't already contain a suitable alternative. The file list can be accessed through Special pages or by clicking here.

 • Ensure that the image you wish to use is in a suitable file format (jpg, gif or png). Photos are best as either jpg or png, line drawings as gif.
 • Using an appropriate image package, resize them as appropriate, and make any adjustments to the colour balance contrast, brightness etc. that you feel are necessary.
 • Login to SASSA and click on Upload file in the toolbox at the bottom left hand side of the screen.
 • Choose browse to find and select the image you wish to upload.
 • Enter an appropriate and descriptive file name for the uploaded image.
 • Enter any other information including the copyright of the image and choose to upload.
 • Write down exactly the new file name including underscores for spaces and being careful of cases as SASSA Wiki is case-sensitive.
 • Go to the page where you would like to include the image and follow the instructions given below.

[edit] Including images in content

 • Locate in the file list the image you wish to include and write down exactly or copy the file name.
 • Go to the page where you would like to include the image.
 • Choose edit from the page tabs along the top of the page.
 • Write the following syntax where you would like to include the image, editing the capitalised text as appropriate. N.b. by default the image will float to the right of the screen with text to the left.

 • Save or preview the page to view the result.

If you wish to align or format the image differently follow the instructions below.

[edit] Aligning and formatting images

Resizing Most images in SASSA Wiki are included as thumbnails. However, if you wish to include a larger or smaller image you may manually specify size as follows:

 • Natural image size
 • To resize specify the number of pixels wide you wish the image to be and it will automatically be scaled to fit.

N.b. it is also possible to resize thumbnails by specifying the pixel width after thumb.

If you are not using thumbnails you will not automatically be able to add a caption. To do this you must frame the image.

Alignment To specify that you wish images to:

 • float to the right of the text.
 • float to the left of the text.
 • not float alongside text, but to occupy space by itself.

To co-align images you can use and edit the following xhtml text.

<divstyle="float:right; width:315px;">

[[image:IMAGE2.jpg|none|thumb|215px|IMAGE 2]

</div>

[edit] Attaching other files

You can upload other file approved file formats in exactly the same way as you would an image using the Upload file option. Approved file types are: png, gif, jpg/jpeg, doc, xls, pdf.

Please only use the non image formats to append a case study or if absolutely necessary. Otherwise convert word documents into wiki syntax. A number of online programmes are available to help you with this if necessary.

To include a link to the uploaded file from a SASSA Wiki page, choose edit and type in and edit the following command.

[edit] Including file type icons

With the range of differentlinks that can be included in any one page it can be helpful to the user to use small file type icons to make it clear where the link being followed will take them.
