[edit] Soil Classification
The effects of different soil forming processes acting on sedimentary and geological materials of diiferent origin, produces soils with typical profiles of soil horizons. Each of these soil horizons has a different suite of properties depending on the processes that formed them and the sequence of horizons defines a soil type. This forms the basis for international and national soil classification schemes.
Classification schemes group soils together by similarities in properties, parent materials and the sequence of horizons. There are a number of deifferent internation and national schemes. More details on a few of these classification schemes can be found by licking on the link in the list below:
- World Reference Base (WRB) classification system.
- United States Department of Agriculture classification system.
- Soil Survey of England and Wales classification system.
