[edit] World Reference Base (WRB) Soil Classification
The WRB soil classification scheme is uses diagnostic horizons, properties and materials which to a large extent are observable and measurable in the field and is based around soil forming processes. The WRB is a two tier system consisting of:
- The Reference Base consisting of 32 Reference Soil Groups (RSGs), and
- The WRB Classification System consiting of a set of prefix and suffix qualifiers that can be appended to the RSG to give a precise classification.
The WRB is freely available on-line. Follow the external link below to access the full classifiation system. This includes a key to the Reference Soil Groups, information about diagnostic horizon, properties and materials, and a list of the classifying sub-divisions for the RSGs.
